What is Body Butter?

The Breakdown of Body Butter

Body butter is similar to body lotion, only richer and more deeply nourishing to the skin. A must-have item on any bathroom shelf, body butter works to keep your skin looking radiant and hydrated all day long. The gals at Moody Sisters consider themselves body butter addicts, and are here to tell you everything you need to know about this mega moisturizer. Let’s start with the basics!

What is Body Butter?

Body butter is an ultra-rich moisturizer that combines shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, and more to create a luxurious lather. Notable characteristics of body butter are its thick texture, which explains why you’ll often find it packaged in a jar rather than a bottle. A little goes a long way with body butter, so packaging it in this manner ensures you don’t waste any product while pumping it into your palm.

When it comes to soothing and nourishing the skin deep, body butters are believed to be more highly effective. Especially areas that are prone to dryness such as elbows and knees, or other rough patches can benefit greatly from body butter. Similarly, body butter can soothe hands that are roughened from work, or feet that are feeling particularly worn.

Made in small batches, the Moody Sisters Dry Skin Body Butter hydrates and softens skin so that it’s irresistible to the touch. Ingredients like aloe, vitamin E, shea butter, and sunflower seed oil blend beautifully to deliver a heavy gulp of moisture to your skin.

Body butters are particularly helpful during the winter months, when the air is cold and dry, and your skin takes a toll. Lose the body lotion, and opt for a body butter instead, as it will prevent your skin from drying and cracking.

How do you use body butter?

Body butter is best applied after a bath or shower, when your pores are open and ready to receive. Pat your body dry with a towel, leaving just a small amount of moisture on the surface of your skin. When you apply your body butter, it’ll mix with that moisture and buff into your skin with ease.

Scoop your body butter, and rub directly onto the surface of your skin. Gently massage yourself from top to bottom until you’re completely covered in body butter. Once it fully absorbs, the result will be unbelievably smooth skin.

If you happen to apply too little, don’t sweat it. Body butter can be layered, and reapplied throughout the day if necessary. Your hands, elbows, knees, and feet may require a little extra TLC when applying your body butter. These areas are particularly prone to dryness, and will absorb the product more quickly and easily.

Top tips for using body butter

●     Apply body butter immediately after bathing to lock in moisture

●     Body butter can be used both day or night, as long as it’s within a few minutes of showering

●     Avoid using scalding hot water for your bath or shower and instead use warm water

●     Individuals with dry skin can use body butter everyday

●     Those with normal to oily skin should use body butters less often

●     To lock in moisture overnight, apply body butter immediately before bed

●     Don’t rub your body butter in completely before bed. The remaining product will soak into your skin as you sleep.

●     To nourish the feet, apply body butter, and cover your toesies with some comfy, cozy socks.

Extend the life of your fragrance with body butter

One of our favorite added bonuses of body butter is that it’s super effective at extending the life of your fragrance. Nothing’s worse than spritzing yourself with expensive perfume, only for it to wear off after an hour or two. Perfume can be pricey, and you want it to last the entire day, and evening too, but it needs something to help it stick. Luckily, body butters are packed full of nourishing oils that create the perfect foundation for your perfume.
